On VDS Fight Etiquette

On Monday I posed this question to my beloved Northmans: "As a baby vamp, I'm wondering whether there's any sort of recognized VDS etiquette for Hit Listing, retaliation for Hit Listing, etc. that I should be aware of?" The resulting chat was wonderful fun. I had some more thoughts, though; being a nerdy academic, I naturally have to over-analyze things, so I posted this here to spare the group, lol.  :)

Another note on this topic. Interestingly, I got into a "discussion" (which, at first, involved mostly bloodletting...) with another non-clan player on this - as I remember it, I killed/KOed him once, and he responded by HLing me... so I killed/KOed him, so he HLed me.... etcetera until finally we called it a truce, though we still seemed to disagree about the etiquette. He seemed to feel it was rude to attack repeatedly until death/KO, saying he "spreads it out." I thought attacking until death/KO was pretty fair/typical - I think of that as a single "fight," so I was a bit miffed at being HLed for it. The last thing he said was: "I play VW also and have put out only 2 hits in a year, so I know about game etiquette. I don't need you to tell me what in in good taste. [...] Regardless, we are cool. Happy trails." Of course there are no rules to VDS (which he and I both respected) and of course we all play in our own ways, but I suppose the point to this long-winded post is simply this: what do you guys think? Or is this even worth talking much about? Maybe it's totally not lol. Maybe it sucks the fun right out! :)

In any case, here is how I responded: "Although - as you said - there are no rules to VDS, I think people differ a lot on what they consider subjectively to be proper game etiquette (the ease with which such misunderstandings occur are part of why I don't tend to HL - but that's just me). I actually VW a lot, too, elsewhere. I do thank you for actually explaining to me what prompted you to HL (though it might have been nice to know beforehand). For me, when a name comes up in the Fight list that I think I can take down, I just consider doing so typical gameplay based on my own experience. But then again, to each his/her own. :) Happy hunting!"

He responded: "Thanks for the explanation. No harm done. I have been hitlisted in the past due to not paying close enough attention to whom I am attacking when on a roll, and hitting a vamp I already buried.......oops. I'm willing to clan up if you are, if not, I understand. Have fun."  Needless to say, now we are clan, lol.  I love it.  :)
